Hi everyone! I had some of you email me questions about the work that I do, what it involves, and how it differs from traditional talk therapy. For today’s blog I decided to lean into these questions and hopefully provide you with some answers. And for those thinking about booking a session with me, I hope to further awaken your intrigue. 


Let’s get started!


What The Heck Is This?

Psychosomatic therapy is a style of psychology that merges the body and the mind and looks to bring about healing from a “whole-listic” approach. My specialty is in helping my clients understand how their emotional and psychological experiences influence their physical health. I have had the honor of holding space for clients facing a wide range of issues, from chronic pain and stress-related conditions, to anxiety, depression, and trauma. What I’ve discovered through my practice, is that emotional blockages, unresolved trauma, and even everyday stress can manifest in the body in ways that are often difficult to understand or diagnose.


Some of these symptoms include (and are not limited to):

  • Chronic pain (headaches, migraines, back pain, neck pain, ocular pain and issues, joint pain, etc.)

  • Overall muscular tension

  • Digestive issues (constipation, diarrhea, reflux, nausea, etc.)

  • Fatigue, low energy

  • Inability to focus, think clearly, brain fog

  • Uterine Fibroids, heavy menstrual cycles

  • Hormonal disorders

  • Shortness of breath

  • Heart issues

  • Sleep problems

  • Decision making fatigue (yes, that’s a thing, and Mel Robbins has a great podcast of this)


This list goes on but I wanted to highlight some of the symptoms that my clients brought with them as we began working together. I also want to take a moment to thank them for their trust and their commitment to themselves to grow, transform, and create the lives they are proud to live.

So, How Does This Work? 

Sessions are an hour long and time is allocated to “talk therapy” and body awareness. Your time can be divided however you would like and that usually depends on what you want to focus on or need to share. This segment will feel like a traditional talk “therapy session”, if you’ve ever had one, and is where you get to bring into the space issues, concerns, or whatever you feel is holding you back. 


Together, we explore the origin of what you are sharing to gain a deeper understanding. The goal here is not to “fix” the “problem”. Here we gather more information, we  gain awareness of why whatever is showing up for you is present now in your life (it's the “oh God why now! syndrome), we look and see if there are any behavioral patterns that could possibly point to why such an issue is present, and, where does it live in your body. Developing an awareness of what and where your body is holding certain emotions is pivotal to releasing and healing. 


Every issue is held in an area of our body and there is a reason why they are held there. As we continue to gather information, gain awareness, and gain a deeper understanding of who you are today and how you have gotten here, you will understand the WHY behind the physical manifestations of the issue. 


Next, you will be invited to work with your body where you will begin to learn more about your body’s infinite wisdom! Working with your body involves learning mindful techniques and at times using equipment to help you connect and release emotions. As you learn to integrate your thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and information gained from the “talk therapy” portion, you begin to develop an understanding of how your body and mind work in tandem. These new lessons become skills and lifelong tools you’ll use as you continue your journey through life.


Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain, unexplained symptoms, or simply feeling out of balance in your life, I offer a safe, compassionate space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. Together, we’ll work to uncover the emotional roots of your struggles and develop personalized strategies to bring you back to a place of health and vitality.


I’m here to guide you on your healing journey with the belief that your body has wisdom to offer, and that emotional well-being is a crucial part of living a healthy, fulfilling life.
